Surfing Project- LEARN TO SURF AND TEACH THE LESS PRIVILEGED HOW TO SURF - South Africa

Description: The programme Runs daily: Monday - Friday Learn how to surf and teach less privileged children how to surf. We aim at making a difference to less privileged childrens lives by teaching them how to surf free of charge. Our Project aims to change as many childrens lives as we possibly can, the Project has been running for over 3 years now and has already made a huge impact on the community. It welcomes volunteers coming over from all over the world to help teach the children and make a difference to the community and help the less-privileged. The project was founded with the aim to get children off the streets and away from begging, to give them something constructive to do with their time whilst ministering into their lives and telling them about Jesus Christ. Mandy the FOUNDER/ missionary says:“We have started the project to add back to our community in south africa, too many children are suffering with no food and places to live, so we thought it was time we did something to change the sad suffering. We aim at getting the children’s lives focused on going to school, engaging in healthy eating habits and to also create a stable Christian based foundation in their lives and make them happier. It saddened me to see children resorting to substance abuse because of disadvantages in their upbringing. I wanted to make them happier so I decided to do something about it. Now its so amazing to see the change that has taken over their lives since the project started. They are much happier and healthy now. This is the most rewarding feeling for me and “You” the Volunteer”. During surfing advice on healthy eating and teaching the children manners and private counselling for if the children needs someone to talk to about their day to day problems at home- the counselling is done by Volunteers through the church and Our other Co-ordinators and volunteers. We currently teach 200 children A month, and have our fulltime boys that we are trying to encourage not to resort to substance abuse for short term relief from their circumstances (they say they have stopped). The projects have now expanded to the Garden route as well as Cape Town. On the Garden route we are based in a place called Cape St Francis- based on the Garden route (close to elephant parks , big 5 etc) This base is 20 minutes drive from Jeffreys bay and we currently have a great need for volunteers here. This location has a need for individual volunteers and large /small groups.The surf school in Cape town has a need for large groups from Churches to help run the ministries.Within cape town we work strongly with Hillsong church, they do provide buses to get the children to church and within the Garden route we work with local churches within the Community and we serve at the Victory church in Jeffreys bay.Requirements:You will be taught to surf and shown how to teach the children to surf, its a great experience.No specific skills or qualifications are necessary except a love for the Lord, volunteers will receive full training but a short motivational letter, reference letter from your pastor and application form filled out by you is required from us. Reasonable Fitness is also required for the surfing. Minimum age is 18 years
